What should I wear to my class?

Students are allowed to wear their school PE kit during their initial booked training. If a student forgets their PE kit or does not have approved clothing they will observe the class from their seating area.

When do I need a SHMA Karate Uniform and Protective Head-Guard?

Students must acquire the SHMA Uniform and Protective Head-Guard before beginning their second term. These items must be purchased together and are available in our online shop. Many parents opt to buy the SHMA Uniform and HeadGuard during their child's first term so that they feel more inclusive wearing their martial arts uniform in class. Only SHMA uniforms with the logo and approved badges may be worn.

Can I make up a missed class?

Im afraid not unless SHMA Cancels the class. As per our terms and conditions SHMA reserves the right to cancel up to 2 per classes term due to Instructor illness, adverse weather, venue issues or other discrectionaty reasons). If SHMA cancels one lesson during the term, students have six months to makeup the class. If two classes are canceled, students will have an additional six months to catch up on the second class; after this period, the opportunity expires and the makeup's are voided. Students in afterschool classes can makeup the missed class in another afterschool class (age restrictions apply for Friday classes) during the 6 month period. Students who do not attend afterschool classes cannot makeup a class in any after school class. Students are required to attend classes that correspond with their age/grade as outlined in the weekly class schedule. Please contact us to request a makeup in the appropriate class stating the class day, date and time. Afterschool class students may also make up missed classes in suitable non-afterschool classes. If SHMA cancels 1 lesson during the term, students have six months to complete the makeup class. If SHMA cancels 2 classes during the term, students will have an additional 6 months to catch up the 2nd cancelled class; after these periods, the opportunity expires and the makeups are voided.

Sparring Kit

Dipped Foam Shin Guards are mandatory for students once they attain their 10th Gup (Yellow Belt). For 9th Gup (Yellow Belt with a White Tag), students require Dipped Foam Hand & Foot Guards (male students must also have a groin guard). You can find all Sparring Kits available for purchase in our website shop. While you're welcome to buy your own sparring kit from Amazon etc, please ensure it meets the required style and colour. Purchasing the complete sparting kit from the 10th Gup Yellow Belt level enables students to join the sparring group instead of participating in the 2/2 turn-based sparring training. Belt Gradings

The students senior class instructor will update the members info section to show students who have been pre approved for a belt grading. A Pre approved grading means that with consistant and focussed training and regular home practice the student should grade on the month that has been indicated. If a student does not meet the requirements to pass their grading they will be withdrawn from their grading. the grading fee paid will be carried over to the students next scheduled grading. There are many reasons why a student may grade more or less frequently than another student: The students age, the class they attend, the lessons attended each week (1, 2 or 3), monthly focus workshops attended, attendance & lateness, holiday camps attended, regular home practice supervised.
